Margaret Knoll Spangler Oliver Libraries Award

Knoll Spangler Oliver Award ImagePresented for outstanding service and successful performance as an employee of the University Libraries.

This award, which includes a certificate of recognition and a cash stipend, is given to recognize and reward outstanding service by employees who have held full-time or part-time employment for at least one year in the University Libraries. The nominee must have demonstrated successful job performance by combining competence of skills, knowledge of subject matter, and successful interaction with others.

Any employee of the University Libraries, including student employees, may make a nomination.

Eligibility:

The nominee may be any Libraries' employee who has held full-time or part-time employment for at least one year in the University Libraries. Past recipients are not eligible for the award for a period of five years. The nominee must have demonstrated successful job performance by combining competence of skills, knowledge of subject matter, and successful interaction with others. In addition, the following criteria will guide the selection process:

  • Positive attitude, cooperation, and courteous interaction with co-workers, peers, and the general public.
  • Initiative, quality of work, and effectiveness in carrying out job responsibilities.
  • Commitment to performing in a professional manner.
  • Dedication to and knowledge of the mission of their own work area, the University Libraries, and Penn State.
  • Dependability.
  • Outstanding contributions to the goals of the University Libraries and Penn State through significant dedication and/or leadership.
  • Innovation, process improvement.
  • Demonstrated interest in self-development.
  • Performance that substantially exceeds the normal expectations.

Submit a Nomination:

In addition to the completed nomination form, each nomination consists of:

  • a letter of support from the nominee's immediate supervisor and
  • at least two other letters in support from University personnel

Nominators MUST notify persons they intend to nominate for this award.

Recipients must agree to be available to attend the ceremony.

All nominations must be received by April 24, 2009. Nominations received after this date will not be considered in the awards process.

The presentation of this award and the University Libraries Award will be held at a reception in the Charles W. Mann, Jr. Assembly Room, 103 Paterno Library on Friday, June 12, 2009, from 2:30–3:30 p.m.
