Campus Sign that reads, "WYOMISSING POLYTECHNIC INSTITUTE,  ESTABLISHED IN 1927 BY TEXTILE MACHINE WORKS TO PROVIDE A WORK-STUDY PROGRAM  FOR ITS APPRENTICES, WAS THE FORERUNNER OF THE PENN STATE BERKS CAMPUS.   ORIGINALLY LOCATED ON HILL AVENUE IN WYOMISSING, WPI GRADUATED OVER 1500  STUDENTS BEFORE BECOMING THE PENN STATE  WYOMISSING CNETER IN 1958.  THE CENTER BECAME PART OF THE COMMONWEALTH CAMPUS  SYSTEM AND IN 1972 WAS RELOCATED TO THIS SITE AS THE PENN STATE BERKS  CAMPUS.      PENN  STATE ALUMNI ASSOCIATION"

 

        MISSION STATEMENT

 

         In support of research and lifelong learning for students,

         faculty, staff, and the general public, and in accordance

         with the University Libraries' Policy UL_SP03. the mission

         of Archive and Special Collections at the Penn State Berks

         Thun Library is to make accessible, preserve, and promote

         specialized collections and discern suitable acquisitions that

         document the history of Penn State Berks and its precursor,

         the Wyomissing Polytechnic Institute.
