Below are links to the databases we reviewed in class. You can access ALL databases from the Brandywine Library Home page by clicking on Databases by Title under Find Articles and Databases.
Before you begin searching for articles, open Refworks: "RefWorks is a web-based bibliography and database manager that allows you to create your own personal database by importing references from text files or online databases and other various sources."
The CAT: online catalog of books owned by Penn State Libraries
- enter relevant keywords connected by AND (eg privacy and work$)
- Use the Drop Down options for MATERIAL TYPE and IN LIBRARY
- click on DETAILS and MORE to find subject terms to focus your search
- use I WANT IT to request a book
- to export your citations to Refworks: open Refworks, from the Tools tab click "Search Online catalog or database", enter book title and click Search
Gale Virtual Reference Library: A collection of over 400 reference resources
- enter your search terms (eg employee privacy)
- mark the articles that are relevant
- to export your citations to Refworks, click on Marked items - Citation tools - Refworks - Export - Refworks
Proquest: indexes 5,000+ magazines, journals, and newspapers.
- enter relevant keywords (eg employee privacy)
- focus search by selecting from the Suggested Topics
- mark the articles that are relevant
- to export your citations to Refworks, click on MY RESEARCH (look near the top) - Export Citations - Export directly to Refworks
Opposing Viewpoints: provides research and background information on social issues
- enter your search terms (eg employee and privacy)
- mark the articles that are relevant
- to export your citations to Refworks, click on Marked items - How to Cite Marked Items - Refworks - Export - Refworks
CQ Researcher: a collection of reports covering political and social issues, with regular reports on topics in health, international affairs, education, the environment, technology and the U.S. economy.
- enter your search terms (eg employee privacy)
- articles with highest "score" will appear first
- be very careful of dates; click on arrow to sort by date
- to export your citations to Refworks, click on CiteNow! - Export Citation to Refworks
To access Subject specific databases, use the Research Guides by Subject.
