Shelf Ready Procedure

 

Shelf Ready Items with Correct Call Number Label

  • Update record as usual
  • Update Home location
    Import the Home location macro if desired from the W:\Macro Express\homelocation.mex file. Follow the instructions for Importing Macros to add it to your default macro file. If you have an older version of the macro already, delete it prior to importing the newer version. The macro works only for Library UP-PAT.
  • Place in appropriate area
    • Pattee/Paterno -- on wooden shelves at front of 126
    • Branches -- place in correct bin (inside Receiving)
    • CCL -- place In Transit and put in correct bin (outside Receiving); See instruction for placing an item In Transit below
 

Exceptions (will continue to go to CatMarking)

  • Re-marks and items with no call number label
  • Paperbacks that do not have a Preservation flier indicating "Mark as is"
  • Paperbacks whose Preservation flier indicates "Mark as is" but that lack an ownership stamp
  • Books with discs
  • Items with gift plates needing to be tipped in
 

Dust Jackets and Fliers

  • CCL - fliers and dust jackets should remain in/on books
  • Branches - fliers should be removed and recycled; dust jackets should remain on books
  • Pattee/Paterno - fliers should be removed and recycled; dust jackets should be removed and stacked on appropriate shelves with books, or placed in CatMarking tray
 

Placing Items In Transit

  • If the cataloging of an item has been completed, update the Home location
  • Open the Check Item Status wizard
  • Click on the Current title info IF the barcode displayed matches the barcode of the item in hand; If the Current info isn't showing the correct barcode, scan or enter the correct barcode in the Item ID field
  • A new window will open showing the Current Status of Item 0000XXXXXXXX [barcode of current item]
  • Click on the Put Item In Transit button at bottom of window to change the Current location to INTRANSIT; an information window will open showing the title and barcode number of the item placed In Transit
  • Click OK to close the information window
  • If you have additional items to place In Transit, scan or enter them in the Item ID box and repeat the process
  • Click Close to exit the Check Item Status window

 

NOTES: 

  • If you place the wrong item In Transit, use the Discharging wizard to update the Current location. You will need to modify your User ID first to associate it with the owning library.
  • DO NOT place patron request items In Transit
  • DO NOT place reserve items In Transit
  • Be aware that if a hold has been placed on the item for a library other than the owning library, it will go INTRANSIT to the library with the hold. (Some libraries prefer to receive their items before they go out to fulfill a hold.)
