Bib_Lvl - Bibliographic level (LDR/07) [OCLC: Mandatory]
Note: There are also values for monographic materials, but in order to use them, you need to change the Format on the Control tab. Except for special collections materials, accept the default. See: MARC Formats, MARC 21 Format for Bibliographic Data, Leader and Directory (in Catalogers' Desktop) for more information.
Enc_Lvl - Encoding Level (LDR/17) [OCLC:Mandatory]
Ctry - Place of publication, production, or execution (008/15-17) [OCLC: Required if applicable]
Note: The default for this element is a blank, which is not a correct value. The correct code should be input. The table is available in Cataloger’s Desktop and on the LC Web site. The code for US places is a state code, followed by a “u” so the code for any place in Pennsylvania would be “pau.”
Lang - Language (008/35-37) [OCLC: Mandatory]
Note: Other codes are listed in the MARC Code List for Languages in Cataloger’s Desktop or on the LC Web site.
Pub_Type -- Nature of entire work (008/24)
A one-character alphabetic code indicates the nature of a serial if it consists entirely of a certain type of material. It is used to specify what type of publication the item is as opposed to what it contains. If the item can be considered more than one type of material, the types are recorded in 008/25-27 (Nature of contents) and 008/24 position is coded blank (#).
Cont - Nature of contents (008/25-27) [OCLC: Optional]
Up to three codes may be recorded, in alphabetical order. If fewer than three codes are assigned, the codes are left justified and unused positions contain blanks ([blank]). Use only if a significant part of the item is the type of material represented by the code.
Note: There are many other values; since this element is optional, accept copy and do not use when creating new records. [???]
GovtPub - Government Publication (008/28) [OCLC: Mandatory]
Alphabt -- Original alphabet or script of title (008/16) [OCLC: Optional]
Indicates the original alphabet or script of the title on the source item, upon which the key title (field 222) is based. If there is no key title present, the code value may relate to the title proper (field 245).
