Blueline Print Procedures

When processing a blueline print, The Maps Team has always verified or added the production method to all records. Two options exist for supplying this information, and either option is equally valid. Follow one of the examples given below.

Old option:

007 a ‡b j ‡d a ‡e a ‡f z ‡g a ‡h a

300 1 map : ‡ b photocopy ; ‡ c 26 x 34 cm.

500 Blueline print.

Now it is simplified greatly; just by putting the type of reproduction in the 300$b. A 500 note is no longer necessary.

New option:

007 a ‡b j ‡d a ‡e a ‡f z ‡g a ‡h a

300 1 map : ‡ b blueline ; ‡ c 26 x 34 cm.

The Maps Team decision to apply the change in Rule 3.5C3 in AACR2 regarding the location for explicit reproduction method statements has been determined as follows:

  1. For copy, accept either way of doing this
  2. For enhancing copy, feel free to either accept the old 300 field/500 field method and not change, or update to just using the 300 field with the specific reproduction method in ‡b
  3. For creating a new record, either way is fine, "personal preference"
  4. That either "blueline" or "blueline print" (similarly, "blackline" or "blackline print" is fine for accepting on copy and using when creating a new record
