All items published in Pennsylvania before 1841 ("Pennsylvania imprints") require special access to the publishing information. The following non-standard subject headings are added, using second indicator 4:

650 _4 Pennsylvania imprints |x[name of publisher or printer]
650 _4 Pennsylvania imprints |y[date]
650 _4 Pennsylvania imprints |zPennsylvania |z[place of publication]

Multiple publishers, etc. require separate 650 fields. Publisher names are entered surname first. Fields are created for each date, if there are no more than six in a range; otherwise for first date only. Fields for uncertain dates are omitted. Place names are input as first listed in the List of Pennsylvania Cutters.
