When cataloging manuscripts and historical collections, a 773 Host Item Entry field is sometimes used to indicate the relationship of the item to a larger entity. Use of this field should be restricted to unique collections and "In" analytics. Use 773 only for the following named collections:
773 0_ |tChris Gaines Memorial Library Collection
773 0_ |tAlbert A. Anderson Jr. and Evelynn M. Ellis Art Education Collection
Note: Named collections of books should not generally be assigned a 773. Rather, we should agree as a Team on using either a 541 field to indicate a particular donor or gift, a 793, or use an added entry for the collection ( 710 2_ |5PSt ) as in the following example from the Library of Congress:
710 2_ |aMarian S. Carson Collection (Library of Congress)|5DLC
