This field contains three-character alphabetic codes for languages associated with an item when Lang in the Fixed Fields area is insufficient to convey full information for a multilingual item or a translation. (See also MARC Code List for Languages.)
In general, accept copy. Some older records have the 1st indicator (blank), which is obsolete and may be updated to either 0 or 1.
Field 546 may also be used to record language information.
