This field contains a call number assigned either by the Library of Congress or other agencies using LC classification guidelines.
Accept as found on copy. See Classification for instructions on how to use an 050 to create a call number for the Vol/Copy record.
Disregard call numbers from foreign CIP, or incomplete 050s.
Original Catalogers will input 050s into original records. Copy Catalogers using near copy to create a record should modify the 050 according to the Near Copy Cataloging Instructions.
LC In-Process 050's
It is not necessary to delete an 050 "In-Process" from copy, but if the copy is not at full level, search for more complete copy to replace it.
