In general, accept LC call numbers. Correct punctuation errors when creating the Call number, but do NOT correct the 050/090. Do not include subfield coding in the Call number, with the exception of |z preceding voluming for sets, class together call numbers, etc. No space is necessary between the |z and the element it follows, which may or may not be the date. See Terms Used in Call Numbers for a list of volume designators and their appropriate abbreviations.
When a "Q" or "F" is used in a Call number to indicate an oversized item, it should appear as the very last element in the Call number in all cases.
Shelflist to avoid creating duplicate call numbers in The CAT. It may be necessary to adjust the cutter in some situations or to make a call number referral. In some cases, we have established a class together call number where LC has not, and vice/versa.
See Classification.
System generated call numbers in order records should be replaced with a valid call number when items are cataloged.
See the Education Library documentation for creating fiction and picture book call numbers.
