Special Processing Notes

  1. If 856 with indicator 7 is found on copy, change the indicators to 40 and delete the |2.

  2. Watch for _ (underscore) and ~ (tilde) in URLs. These characters are not valid in MARC.

_ (underscore) must be changed to: %5F in the 856
~ (tilde) must be changed to: %7E in the 856

  3. In older records you may see URLs repeated in 530 or 538 fields. This was done because the 856 did not display to patrons in the telnet version of the LIAS CAT. It is no longer necessary and we remove the additional URLs as we encounter them now.

  4. If an online title changes and the former title is removed altogether from the site, put the current title in the 245 and use a 246 for the former title:

    2461#|iFormerly known as: |a[former title]

  5. When cataloging online ed.: if corresponding print edition undergoes a title change, but the online version doesn't, we simply add two 776s to the record for the online version. You could use a 580 to explain if you like; it would look something like this:

580 Online edition of: Journal of electronics, and its previous title: Electronics journal.
    7761#|tJournal of electronics.|g1999-
    7761#|tElectronics journal.|g1985-1998.

  6. If we catalog the online edition and later acquire the print version, delete the record for the online version and add the appropriate notes to the record for the print ed.
