Macros
Due to a change in department policy in July 2009, the format of the year in 541|d was changed to a four-digit number. It was formerly a five-digit number. At this time it was decided to "hard-code" the year to 2009 within the macro code itself. Reasons for this include various changes in the format of 541|d over the past several years (which could possibly happen in the future), plus many catalogers are still processing material weeks into the new fiscal year that were acquired in the previous fiscal year. Previous versions of some of the 541 macros automatically flipped the date on July 1, which meant catalogers had to edit this field after each running of the macro while they processed materials from the previous fiscal year. By hard-coding the date, the user can update his/her 541 macros whenever needed. Follow the steps below to update the year in your 541 macros.
Step 1: Open the Macro Express window by double-clicking on the blue "M" in your system tray. The system tray is in the lower right corner of your screen (it displays today's date and time). It should look something like the window shown below. After it opens, find one of your 541 macros to update. In this example we will be updating the Paterno Donor Note.

Step 2: Double-click on the 541 macro you want to update. It should display the macro script in the Macro Express Scripting Editor as shown below.

Step 3: Double-click on the last line of the macro script (it is highlighted in the above image). It should open a Text Type window as shown below.

Step 4: Place your cursor in the 541|d portion of the field and edit the date. In the image below, we changed 2009 to 2010.

Step 5: Click the OK button. Now we have to save our changes. To do this, click on the Save button on the editor's toolbar.
The save button looks like this: ![]()
If you forget to save it, Macro Express will prompt you to save it when you attempt to leave the Macro Express Editor.
You can now return to your list of macros by clicking on the Macro Explorer icon in the Actions panel as shown below.
