Cataloging Popup Menu

"My brain is full of MARC tags and subfields!!! How can I possibly remember all of these shortcut keys too?!?!" --an anonymous cataloger.

Macro Express has a really neat function allowing a user to create a popup window that lists all of the user's macros. Instead of trying to remember a dozen shortcut key combinations, you can just remember only one. In symphony-common.mex (to get this file, see Downloads), there is a Cataloging Popup Menu assigned to the shortcut key Ctrl+J. It contains all of the macros within symphony-common.mex.

How to Use the Popup Menu

Step 1:
Place your cursor in the appropriate position. We are going to insert a surrogate note in the record shown below. Because this macro also types the 590 MARC tag, our cursor should be in the MARC number part of the data field.

Step 2: Now type in the shortcut key, Ctrl+J. A popup menu will appear just like the one below.

Step 3: You can either double-click on the macro you want to run or simply type the number or letter that appears before each macro listed in the popup menu. Since we want to run the "590: Surrogate Note" macro, we can either double-click on it or type in the number 9. After we do this, the popup menu will disappear and the macro will run from the position your cursor was in. The result is below.
