Shortcut Key Assignments

It is highly recommended not to assign the following shortcut keys to macros being used in the Symphony WorkFlows Client:

  • Alt+<anything>
    • Used for menu navigation and accessing buttons at the bottom of most wizards. Please note it is possible to find an Alt+ key combination to use, especially if the macro's scope is in one wizard. Do not assign it to any letter that is underlined in the menu selections and button selections of the wizard. Keep in mind that button selections vary from wizard to wizard.
  • Ctrl+Alt+<anything>
    • Although these are not assigned to anything in Symphony WorkFlows, sometimes the Client thinks you are pressing Alt+<anything> causing a section of the menu to highlight and interfering with the running of a macro.
  • Ctrl+Alt+Shift+U, Ctrl+Alt+Shift+V, Ctrl+Alt+Shift+W, Ctrl+Alt+Shift+X, Ctrl+Alt+Shift+Y, Ctrl+Alt+Shift+Z
    • These are Macro Express system shortcut keys.
  • Ctrl+C
    • Windows shortcut key for copying highlighted data.
  • Ctrl+V
    • Windows shortcut key for pasting data that's in the clipboard.
  • Ctrl+X
    • Windows shortcut key for cutting highlighted data.
  • Ctrl+Enter
    • This inserts a field after the one your cursor is in while in a bibliographic record.
  • Ctrl+Shift+Enter
    • This inserts a field before the one your cursor is in while in a bibliographic record.
  • F1 - F12
    • Although not all function keys are assigned to some task in Symphony WorkFlows, most are. If you really need to use one of these, make sure it isn't one that is already assigned or one you can reassign in the Client. To see what function keys are assigned to in the Client, go to the Preference menu, then select Desktop, then select Current toolbar, then select Function Key Mapping.

  • Shift+Page Down
    • This navigates backward through the tabs of a wizard (i.e. to the left).
  • Shift+Page Up
    • This navigates forward through the tabs of a wizard (i.e. to the right).

Other Programs

If you are creating macros for programs other than for Symphony WorkFlows, it is highly recommended to check that program's help files for the shortcut keys it already has built in. It is recommended not to override any of these.
