Place/Remove Holds Instructions

To recall an item, use the Place Hold procedure.

Place a Hold on an Item

  • Click on the Place Hold Wizard.
  • At the User ID prompt, enter UP-PATIPPB.
  • Click Get User Information or press Enter.
  • If a User Alerts Display window opens with alerts/notes and all is fine, click OK to close the window.
  • At the Item ID prompt, enter the barcode for the item upon which you wish to place a hold. Note: If you already had the Call Number/Item record open for that item, the Current search option will show the title information and clicking on it will enter the barcode in the Item ID field.
  • Click Get Item Information or press Enter.
  • In the Hold Info section, choose UP-Pat as your Pick up location from the dropdown menu or type it in.
  • Accept the default NEVER for the expiration.
  • Leave the Comments box blank. Comments entered here do not display to Cataloging staff in the corresponding bib or call number/item record and Lending staff send recalled books for UP-PATIPPB to the Department or notify CatMarking.
  • In the Level/Range area of the Place Hold window, choose Copy for the Level.
  • In the Recall status area of the Place Hold window, choose the appropriate option.
    • Allow Recall - No notice will be sent to the patron, but, on the book's return, it will be routed to Cataloging/CatMarking and the patron will not be able to renew his/her hold.
    • No Recall - No notice will be sent to the patron and the patron will be able to renew his/her hold. The item will be routed to Cataloging/CatMarking when the item is returned. Choose this option if you're not in a hurry to recall the item in question.
    • Recall now (RUSH) - A notice will be immediately generated for the patron who must return the item to the Library within 7 days. Choose this option if you are in a hurry to recall the item.
  • Click on Make hold first in queue so that you receive the item before someone else who may have a hold placed against it.
  • Click on Place Hold or press Enter.
  • A Complete window should appear with your item's title and item id number and options to place other holds, remove/modify the hold just placed or to close the window.
  • Select the appropriate option.
  • In the Bib record of all items you have placed a hold against, enter an 019 field notifying whoever receives the recalled item(s) to route it to you. You may also choose to additionally add a Comment in the Call number/Item record of the item(s). These should be deleted once you have received the item(s) in question.
