When two or more item types apply to the same item, use the first one that matches from the following list:

1. Ref-Item
2. Thesis (D, M, or B)
3. Online (use for online resources)
4. Audio, *Microform, Multimedia (i.e., kits), Video
5. E-Media (use for CD-ROMs, DVD-ROMs, and other digital formats)
   
6. Manuscript, Archives
7. Map, Newspaper, Score
8. Periodical
9. Instructional materials, **Juvenile book
10. Book

*Prefer the Microform item type only if Microform copy is being added to a record for the print version. If the Microform copy is the only copy, use the list below to determine item type.

**Juvenile book will never be applied to Special Collections materials.
