Program Information

Collections in this area support management programs in the Smeal College of Business and other campuses of Penn State. Business students across the Penn State system are required to take management courses. Smeal College offers undergraduate and doctoral programs in management. These programs are based in the Department of Management and Organization. The undergraduate program is ranked in the top 20 programs in the country by U.S. News and World Report (ranked 17th). General Management is one of the concentrations in the MBA program. MBA students may also select two other management oriented concentrations: 1) Strategic Leadership, and 2) Innovation and Entrepreneurship. Additionally, these resources are used by students enrolled in the following management and leadership oriented programs offered by other colleges: Agribusiness; Health Policy and Administration; Hotel, Restaurant, and Institutional Management; Recreation, Park and Tourism Management; Labor Studies and Employment Relations; and Higher Education.

There are currently 22 faculty members. Among the distinguished faculty members is one of the world’s leading management strategists, Dr. Donald Hambrick. Hambrick, a past president of the Academy of Management, was the 2008 recipient of the Academy of Management’s highest research honor. In a press release about this award, it was noted that : “An acknowledged leader in his field, Hambrick has been researching the impact of executives on corporate performance for nearly 30 years, and his work is cited more than any other scholar in the field.” (Smeal College Web Site: http://www.smeal.psu.edu/news/latest-news/may08/hambrick-earns-academy-of-managements-highest/?searchterm=hambrick) There are currently 13 students enrolled in the doctoral program.
