Source for information on: education, families, health and body, pastimes, populations, possessions, religion, sexuality and workplace. Includes commercial and scholarly survey results. The book is divided into 3 sections: The American Mindset, The American Collective, and Notable Americans. The authors recommend a reading of each of the chapter overviews at the beginning of each chapter for a “succinct picture of the American people ....” The books main forcus seems to be the latter part of the 20th century, although earlier historical perspectives are included.
