Accessing Journal Titles

SciFinder Scholar

Installed on all public workstations in the PAMS Library (201 Davey Lab); the 5 databases work
together through an integrated interface (SciFinder Scholar); includes the following databases:

CA+: Electronic equivalent of Chemical Abstracts; indexes journal articles, conference papers, chemical patents, and doctoral dissertations in chemistry back to 1907

Medline: Electronic equivalent of Index Medicus; covers medical literature back to 1966; ndexes journal articles and conference papers

CASReacts: Can search for chemical reactions

CA Registry File: Indexes chemicals; can be searched by chemical structure

CHEMCATS: Chemical catalogs

Searching for Reactions

SciFinder Scholar (see description under “Accessing Journal Titles”)

CrossFire Commander (“Beilstein”)

Installed on all public workstations in the PAMS Library (201 Davey Lab); consists of two classic handbooks, both of which began publication in the late 1700s

Beilstein: Covers organic chemistry; includes properties data, structure searching, and reaction searching

Gmelin: Covers inorganic and organometallic chemistry; includes properties data and structure searching

SDBS: Spectral Database for Organic Compounds
http://riodb01.ibase.aist.go.jp/sdbs/cgi-bin/cre_index.cgi?lang=eng

SciFinder Scholar (see description under “Accessing Journal Articles”)
Spectral data is listed at the “Experimental Data” link in the chemical substance records; spectral data not available for all substances

Finding Properties Data

CRC Handbook of Chemistry and Physics http://alias.libraries.psu.edu/ERESOURCES/PSU00968
One of several handbooks included at this site

CrossFire Commander (“Beilstein”) (See description under “Searching for Reactions”)

Knovel http://alias.libraries.psu.edu/ERESOURCES/PSU00544
Collection of scientific and engineering handbooks

SciFinder Scholar (see description under “Accessing Journal Articles”)

Thermodex http://www.lib.utexas.edu/thermodex/
Index to several hundred handbooks of chemical and thermodynamic properties data; call numbers are for the University of Texas Chemistry Library, but we have a high percentage of the titles included in the database
