Why Give to University Libraries

At the Libraries your gift, no matter what the amount, can potentially impact EVERY student that is part of the The Pennsylvania State University.

Direct your gift to one or several of the following areas to keep the Libraries on the leading edge of academic research and service. When current and excellent resources are available to students, faculty, and alumni they attract new students and faculty to the University.

ADOPT-A-BOOK: HONOR A LOVED ONE

Want to recognize the accomplishments of a PSU student, professor, or graduate; honor family members or friends; make a memorial tribute; or mark a special occasion such as a retirement, graduation, birthday, anniversary, or wedding? Your gift will place a bookplate inside a newly purchased or newly restored publication to mark the event or celebrate the life.

RESTORE A BOOK

When you make a gift to restore a book, you help preserve our valuable collections such as the many rare books, manuscripts, and photographs in our vaults, as well as other items throughout the Libraries. Restoration and preservation both require special skills as well as a safe storage area to keep these often precious and valuable assets in a condition where they can be studied for years.

SUPPORT A COLLECTION

The Libraries have thousands of special collections, archives, and manuscripts like The John O'Hara Collection (that includes his study replicated in our Special Collections Room) and Fred Waring's America. Books, film, music scores, and even a grand piano are some of the archives we value. With so many collections from which to choose, one is certain to be of interest to you. Keeping these sometimes fragile, often rare, items in the best condition possible takes skill, time, and money so that future generations will also gleen an appreciation for history, art, information, innovation, and more.

SUPPORT A LIBRARY

Did you know that Penn State Libraries are comprised of twenty-four individual libraries across the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania? From campuses across the state to colleges at University Park, our twenty-four libraries each need support for their specific work and research to serve over 80,000 students, plus faculty, staff, and alumni. Our Libraries have a big job to support all aspects of this key academic resource.
