Lending Policy and Registration

Faculty need to register with the library and sign their formal Acceptance of University Libraries Policies in order to use library resources.  For more information, see the University Libraries' lending code.

The faculty & staff checkout limit is 500 items and a loan period for Penn State items of one semester with the exception of videos and DVDs which have a one week loan period.  All materials are subject to recall.

Materials may be renewed online through "My Library Account", over the phone at 814-375-4756 or at the circulation desk in the Library.

Course Integrated Library Instruction

Students can learn how to effectively use the Library in a variety of ways. The DuBois Campus Library encourages faculty to bring their classes into the Library for course integrated library instruction. The Library offers a classroom setting where librarians can work with individual classes in a particular subject area. The Library's classroom provides a 70x70 inch screen where students can learn how to use The CAT, databases and other library resources to help them in their academic pursuits.  The librarians can also conduct presentations in your course's assigned room if internet connections and projection technology are available.

If you would like to bring your class into the Library for an instruction session, please contact either Karen Fuller (kaf5) at 375-4754 or Carrie Bishop (cev10) at 375-4728. Classes must be scheduled one week in advance and you must provide the librarians with a copy of the specific assignment the class is working on.  Assistance is available to help design assignments that use library resources to enhance student research skills and critical thinking.

Purchase Requests

The Penn State DuBois Campus Library welcomes recommendations from all Penn State faculty, staff and students for materials such as books, videos, cds, serials, etc. to be added to our collection. You can do this by suggesting specific titles and authors, or by indicating subject areas that you think need to be strengthened. Please be aware that due to budget constraints and primary library needs, not every request may be fulfilled. The Library will attempt to answer any and all requests in a timely manner. Please include a return email address and complete name in your email.

Send recommendations to Karen Fuller (kaf5@psu.edu).

Course Reserves

To place materials on course reserve at the DuBois Library, please complete a Course Reserve Form(pdf). This form and the materials being placed on reserve must be submitted to the Circulation Desk in the Library. If it is necessary to request materials from other Penn State Libraries, please submit your list and allow ample time for the items to arrive and be processed. Please enter Course ID exactly as students ask for it at the Circulation Desk (ex. HDFS 129). Use a separate form for each course. The Library has up to three business days to process reserve materials. Full text electronic reserves (E-Reserves) are also available. Click Here for more information on E-Reserves.

Please select a loan period on your request form. This loan period will not be changed unless requested by the instructor. Due to copyright law, photocopied materials must be given a 2 hour (Room Reserve) loan period and limited to 3 copies.

At the end of each semester, reserve shelves are cleared and materials will be returned to the instructor. If you wish to keep materials on reserve longer than one semester, please note this on your request form. Students must use items on a regular basis for them to be kept on reserve longer than one semester. Some materials are subject to copyright law and may not be retained longer than one semester. Photocopied materials must be removed at the end of each semester.

The DuBois Campus Library follows certain procedures regarding course reserves and copyright issues. If you have any questions, please see our Course Reserve Policy and statement on Copyright and Fair Use.

Citation Linker

Citation Linker allows you to check citations you already have against the electronic and paper holdings of the Penn State Libraries.  It is a great time-saver if you are working from a bibliography or have a citation in hand.  Enter as much citation information as you have, and use Citation Linker to:

  • Connect electronically to the full-text item if the Library has access to it.
  • Connect to The CAT to determine whether the Library holds a paper copy of the item.
  • Order the item through ILLiad if the Library does not own the print or electronic version.

Medianet

Medianet lists the films and videotapes which are available in the University's Media & Technology Support Services collection. Use this database to identify information about specific items in the collection and determine their availability.

Search the Medianet database to choose from MediaTech's more than 23,000 films, videos, and DVDs.  Titles included in this database can be scheduled for use up to 18 months in advance.

Once you have found a title in the database that you wish to obtain, simply click on the "PICK" button to schedule online.  You may also schedule material by calling MediaTech directly at 800-826-0132 or by contacting Kathleen (keb3) at the DuBois Campus Library at 375-4756.

Faculty Newsletter

The Library newsletter for faculty, PSUL+, is another way for you to find out what's new at our campus library and to learn more about the services we provide.  PSUL+ will come out once a year, early in the Fall semester.

If you have questions, comments, or ideas for future stories in PSUL+, please contact Carrie Bishop at cev10@psu.edu or x4728.
