Although the contract for the Chronicle of Higher Education has not been fully processed yet, The subscription manager has generously given us full access to this content already. If you are on campus, you can go to Chronicle.com and have full access to all content, including the premium articles (those with gold keys next to them) without authentication. If you are off-campus, you can access the content if you are logged into the LIAS VPN, or, if you go to either the database A-Z list or the e-journal list (they should both be active tomorrow) you will be prompted to log in via WebAccess.
Also, as a special bonus, because Penn State is wonderful, we have been provided with an extra easy way to access this content. Please see the instructions below to create your own, personal id/password.
Anyone who has, or creates, a free Chronicle account using their psu.edu domain, will now be able to do a number of things when they go to the Chronicle.edu site via Penn State's subscription, including . . .
1) Access premium content posted at Chronicle.com from any location without going through your institution’s proxy server
2) Access premium content from one's smart phone, tablet, or any other mobile device with a Web browser
3) Sign up for any of our free e-newsletters such as Academe Today, Chronicle Review, the Global Edition, and others
4) Sign up for job alerts
5) Participate in Chronicle forums
6) Comment on Chronicle articles
7) Email Chronicle content to colleagues
While items 3-7 are free services available to anyone, the first two items are normally purchased as an upgrade to one’s site license. They also come with one’s individual subscription. We are providing this service free of charge for Penn State University.
To take advantage of your e-mail domain access, all that is required is for an authorized user to have a free Chronicle account using their university email address. A Chronicle account can be created by going to Chronicle.com and clicking on the "create" link at top, right hand side of Web page. Once you have a user name or password, you’ll be able to log on to Chronicle.com from anywhere in the world and have access to our premium content. And while logging on can be considered a “pain,” we do offer a check box that keeps one logged on for a full year.
