The resources listed on this page have options for using languages other than English. Some of the resources will allow you to change the language on the search and results screens, and some will allow you to search for items published in languages other than English. Tips are provided for changing the language of the search and result screens (labeled "Screen Language") and/or of searching for items in a specific language (labeled "Language of Items") as available for the resource.

PressDisplay
Search for newspapers by country or language. Actual image of newspaper will be displayed in original language. Click for printing instructions.
NewsBank (Access World News)
Search for newspapers from around the world by country, city, and specific newspaper. Transcripts from select news stations and affiliates are also available. English only.
The Cat
Language of Items: Click on "Advanced Search" under "Other Searches". There is a scroll-down menu beside "Language:". The results from your search will be in the language chosen. If you do not put any search terms in the boxes, you will retrieve all items available in the chosen language.
WorldCat
Screen Language: Click on one of the languages in the bar at the bottom of the screen to change the language on the search and results screens.
Language of Items: Click on the "Advanced Search" tab. Next to "Limit to:" you will see a scroll-down menu beside "Language." All results from your search will be in the chosen language. You can also click on "Show all languages..." beside the scroll-down menu for more language options.
Gale Virtual Reference Library
Screen Language: Click on "Preferences" in the top right corner. Choose the preferred language and then click "Apply preferences." You will have to click on something (for example, "Advanced Search") for the change to be applied.
ProQuest
Screen Language: Choose a language in the scroll-down menu in the upper right-hand corner. Then click "Go".
Language of Items: Type the desired language in one of the search boxes and change the scroll-down menu beside that bar to "Document language".
JSTOR
Language of Items: Click on "Advanced Search". Under "Limit to:" is "Language". Choose a language from the scroll down menu. Only items published in the chosen language will appear in the results list.

CINAHL
Language of Items: Towards the bottom of the right-hand column of the search screen is the option to limit the results of a search by language.
Web of Science
Language of Items: Click on "Web of Science" tab at top. Type the name of the desired language in the search box and then change the scroll-down menu to "Language". In "Advanced Search", you can narrow your results to a country. The advanced search screen also has a list of languages to choose from at the bottom of the screen.

JSTOR
Language of Items: Click on "Advanced Search". Under "Limit to:" is "Language". Choose a language from the scroll down menu. Only items published in the chosen language will appear in the results list.
ScienceDirect (Elsevier)
This database has helpful tutorials available in several languages. Click on the word "Help" in the green bar and then select a language for the tutorial.
Web of Science
Language of Items: Click on "Web of Science" tab at top. Type the name of the desired language in the search box and then change the scroll-down menu to "Language". In "Advanced Search", you can narrow your results to a country. The advanced search screen also has a list of languages to choose from at the bottom of the screen.
