You and Academic Integrity
by Kay Harvey, Head Librarian, Penn State McKeesport
- Give credit when bringing in concepts and/or ideas from someone else.
- Follow copyright laws when you distribute materials or show media to your students.
- Educate yourself and your students about academic integrity issues and why students cheat.
- Use your district's Academic Integrity/ Cheating Policy. (If they don't have one, help get one adopted).
- Give students something in writing that defines academic integrity, go over it with them in class, and give a short quiz on plagiarism.
- Clearly explain your expectations and the consequences for cheating. Adjust your pedagogy to fit contemporary circumstances.
