Online Catalog, Databases, and Full-text Resource Access

Penn State’s on-line catalog and database resources are available via the web from the Libraries homepage at http://www.libraries.psu.edu. You will need a Penn State Access account and password to be able to use some of the on-line services. The Libraries homepage can also be accessed via non-Penn State ISP. Those using a non-Penn State internet service provider must have a Penn State Access account and password to use the databases and other resources and services.

Access to Full-text Resources

Full-text electronic resources, including journals may be accessed from By Title (A-Z List) under Find Articles and Databases on the Libraries’ homepage. In addition, many of the on-line catalog (CAT) records contain links to the url for resources available full-text. Individual titles may be searched by going to E-Journal List. If you have a citation you can search for it on the Citation Linker. The Online Reference Shelf provides links to a number of full-text reference materials.

                       

Interlibrary Loan 

Materials that are not available at Great Valley or within Penn State as well as journal articles from other PSU campuses can be requested via interlibrary loan using the University Libraries Interlibrary Loan web product that can be found by clicking on the Interlibrary Loan link on the Libraries’ homepage at http://www.libraries.psu.edu. Books from within the Penn State system can be ordered by using the I Want It feature on the CAT.

 

Document Delivery

Document Delivery via the ingentaconnect.com database is available to Penn State Users.  If the article is available on ingentaconnect.com you can have it faxed directly to your fax, delivered to your desktop, or the fax located in the Great Valley Library at no cost to you, usually within 24 hours. Articles available full-text from Penn State may be blocked from order.  Be aware that if the article is delivered to your desktop you will only be able to view it once so you should print it out or save it at that time.

To use ingentaconnect.com:

  • Go to the Libraries homepage  http://www.libraries.psu.edu/psul.html
  • Under Find Articles and Databases click on By Title(A-Z)
  • Type in ingentaconnect.com
  • Click GO
    Or
  • Scroll Down to ingentaconnect.com and click on it
  • Set up an account on ingentaconnect.com
  • Search for your article and place an order (If you want to fax the article to the Great Valley Library use 610-725-5223 as the fax number)

Articles may also be ordered from the British Library Inside document delivery product.  Once you register, Penn State will provide you with a document delivery account with $300.00 that can be used to order British Library Inside articles. To set up an account or search the product:

  • Go to the University Libraries Interlibrary Loan British Library Inside page at: http://www.libraries.psu.edu/psul/forms/access_forms/insideregistration.html 
  • Fill out the form to register. You will receive an account shortly
  • To search British Library Inside go to http://portico.bl.uk/online/inside/

Reference Consultations and Other Library Instruction

Library Faculty will be glad to conduct a Reference Consultation with you to teach you to use the CAT, the databases and full-text resources, how to develop search strategies, APA style and more, or we can help you locate those hard-to-find references. To arrange a consultation contact Dr. Dolores Fidishun x3227, dxf19@psu.edu. Library faculty will also provide course-related instruction for students at the request of course faculty.

 

Electronic Reserves

University Libraries provides Electronic Reserves for your classes. To access these reserves go to http://www.libraries.psu.edu and click on Course Reserves.

 

Ordering Materials

You may suggest materials to be added to the library collection. Send requests to Dr. Dolores Fidishun at dxf19@psu.edu.

 

Tri-State College Library Cooperative

Penn State Great Valley is a member of the Tri-State College Library Cooperative. The forty-five libraries located around the Delaware Valley will allow you to use their library and sign out books. For list of libraries check the Great Valley Library homepage (http://www.libraries.psu.edu/greatvalley) and then stop at the Library Information Desk to get a letter of introduction.

 

Instructional Design Services

Ms. Julie Meyer, the Instructional Designer is available to assist students with ANGEL and other course-related needs. You can contact her directly at 610-648-3358 or jmm49@psu.edu. The Instructional Design department also provides a student video-editing suite for use with course-related projects.

Virtual Reference Service

University Libraries provides virtual reference via the web. To use Virtual Reference go to the Libraries homepage at http://www.libraries.psu.edu and click on the ASK! button.

 

Bookable Group Study Space

The Library provides a bookable group study room for student use. Call 610-648-3215 to reserve the room.
 

Collaborative Workstations

The Great Valley Library provides two collaborative workstations for those doing group work. One is located in the Library’s Reference area, the other is in the group study room.
