Ten library teams recognized at CQI event

By Sydney Bennington

On April 30, 2010, Executive Vice President and Provost Rodney Erickson and the Office of Planning
and Institutional Assessment (OPIA) recognized the work of Continuous Quality Improvement Teams at
the annual Quality Issues Forum and Luncheon. Ten teams from the University Libraries were
recognized. Over the next few weeks, we will give you a brief overview of the accomplishments of each
of these teams.

CIC/Google Book Search Project Team
This team of approximately 50 members is coordinating the sending of up to 500,000 items from the
University Libraries’ collection to Google for digitization as part of the CIC/Google Book Project. In
addition, beginning in spring 2010, the team began sending government documents to Google for
digitization. Items scanned by Google are also being loaded into HathiTrust (www.hathitrust.org), the
CIC’s electronic repository. The fulfillment rate for material in the Libraries’ Annex has increased to
nearly 100% as a result of barcoding and cataloging efforts there as part of this project.

Civility Team
The ultimate goal of this team is to build a culture of respect and to value everyone’s unique contribution
to the University Libraries. The team has sponsored several Civility@OurLibraries discussion groups,
presentations, and workshops since its inception in January 2009.

Desk Tracker Implementation Team

Beginning in June 2009, this team developed forms in Desk Tracker to collect standard statistics,
determined if there are other statistics that can be managed via Desk Tracker and what forms can support
this activity, ensured that there is a process for sharing this information, and determined how to assess the
utility of Desk Tracker. Desk Tracker was implemented at University Park libraries during fall semester
2009.

Google Analytics Implementation Team
This team assessed and implemented the setup, access, community, training, and maintenance of Google
Analytics for CMS, Digital Initiatives and Applications. Use of Google Analytics was implemented
throughout the University Libraries in August 2009.

Thank you to all of these teams for their hard work! We will profile additional teams in one of our future
columns.
