UPLEA is working with the Spikes in sponsoring a “Night out at the park” on July 23 at 7:05 pm. Details as follows:

When: June 1 - June 30
During the month of June, UPLEA will be holding a supplies drive for the Centre Hall SPCA. This time of the year is especially hectic for the shelter due to the large number of puppies and kittens surrendered in addition to those pets given up as a result of the economic downturn. Donation boxes have already been placed in the Technical Services breakroom (126 Paterno), Access Services breakroom (105 Pattee), and the 5th Floor Paterno breakroom. Attached to these are blue donation lists on which are the following items:
Canned Cat Food
Canned Kitten Food (Ollie's is a great resource for this)
Kitten Milk Replacer
Canned Dog Food
Dog Treats
Non-Scoopable Cat Litter
Toys
Blankets
Micro Fiber Towels
Pooper Scoopers
Horse Wormer
Horse Food (Centre Hall Farm Store)
Laundry Detergent
Clorox
Dryer Sheets
Windex
Swiffer Dusters
Sponges
Paper Towels
Hand Soap & Sanitizer
Post It Notes
Pens
Adhesive Labels
Tablets
Scissors
Please consider purchasing an item or two to help the SPCA; any donation is greatly appreciated! In addition, please consider adopting an animal from them (www.pspca.org)! After all, June is Adopt-a-Shelter-Cat month ;) If you have any questions, contact Heather Heidrich! Thanks in advance :)
May 11 - June 5
The University Park Libraries Employee Association would like to announce its May service project. We are collecting children’s books (school and personal reading) and school supplies for children living in the Philippines.
We recently received a message from Tineke Cunning from the School of International Affairs, asking for help in conjunction with a rotary project supporting this effort. After visiting rural schools there, she wrote:
"Not only did many of the children not have the simple things we take for granted (i.e. footwear -- not even flip flops, clean water, and regular meals) but the schools (if they even exist) were in dire straits. Books were almost non existent in many cases and the limited books that were available were coverless and twenty and thirty years old but always sought out by and extensively used. We are truly blessed to have the quality of life we have and specifically, regarding reading resources and school materials for our students, we are a land of wealth with an overflowing richness of resources and high quality educators -- our students/children are very fortunate! I am writing to ask for your help/support. I am collecting children's books (school and personal reading materials) as well as school supplies to send to several of my new found Rotarian friends (in support of their club's community projects). My Rotarian colleagues are extensively involved in bettering the lives and futures of rural children in the Luzon region. May I ask that if you have any children's books and/or other resources (or if you know of others who may have resources/materials) and would be willing to donate those resources to this very important effort, could you please let me know. I guarantee you that the books and materials will go to the children who are in great need and who would benefit from your generosity and support."
If you would like to help up in our efforts, please drop off these requested supplies in the bin in the Paterno 126 break room by Friday, June 5th. Thank you in advance for your help. If you have questions, please email Megan Gilpin at mcg13@psu.edu.
When: March 17, 2009
Where: The Pasquerilla Spiritual Center
Time: 10 AM - 4 PM
Our goal is to collect 30 units of blood. And we want YOU to help us achieve our goal of collecting 30 units of blood, just by giving about an hour of your time.
The Greater Alleghenies Blood Services Region of the American Red Cross is conducting its Recycle Life campaign, and anyone donating at the blood drive will receive a Recycle Life tote/shopping bag while supplies last. An example is on display in the break room in 126 Paterno. We will also be providing snacks (all day) and pizza (11-2).
That means we will need about 40+ donors. Potential donors can schedule themselves, at www.psuredcross.org. Donors should scroll down to locate our individual drive, click on the link, and follow the prompts. It’s easy! Or, email the information to Megan Gilpin at mcg13@psu.edu.
Remember . . . . every two seconds someone in America needs blood. And we can help. For more information, please visit www.redcross.org.
Thanks in advance for your help!
