How many hours/week can I work?
You can work a maximum of 40 hours/week (midnight Sunday continuing through midnight the following Saturday) at Penn State. The total hours worked at Penn State may not exceed 40 hours/week. Graduate assistantships are considered sources of employment (1/2 time=20 hrs/week, time = 10 hrs/week). How many hours/week can international students work?
A maximum of 20 hours/week can be worked while school is in session (includes finals week). This limit applies to all types of employment including assistantships. A maximum of 40 hours/week is permitted during vacation periods including summer as long as full-time student status has been maintained and registration is intended for the following semester.
When will I become eligible to be paid for holidays and vacation time?
As a part-time, non-student employee, you will become eligible for holiday/earned time after working two consecutive years at Penn State, working at least 750 hours each year (approx. 20 hrs./week). You will be notified by Libraries Human Resources of eligibility. Additional information about this benefit can be found in HR05.
When will I become eligible for medical benefits?
As a part-time, non-student employee, you will become eligible to participate in the University's healthcare plan after working two consecutive years at Penn State, working at least 750 hours each year (approx. 20 hrs./week). You will be notified by Employee Benefits of eligibility. Additional information about this benefit can be found in HR05.
