Requesting to Post Part-Time Vacancies

All part-time (wage payroll and work-study) vacancies at University Park are posted on the Libraries Jobs website.  Information on how to request a position be posted can be found by visiting the Part-Time Application System instructions.


Hiring New Employees

The following forms should be completed by supervisors at the time of hire for all new employees.  A background check must be completed for all non-student employees before the first day of employment.  Contact LHR for additional information regarding background checks.

Give the following policies to new employees at the time the employee signs the form:

*The orientation times for new part-time employees are:

  • Tuesdays, 12:15 p.m. in 511 Paterno
  • Thursdays, 3:45 p.m. in 511 Paterno

Please Note:  Contact Libraries Human Resources if these times are not convenient in order to schedule another time for the new employee to attend.

All new employees must attend a new hire orientation before beginning employment to complete the required paper work and to receive information about part-time employment. It will take approximately 15-20 minutes.

New employees will need to bring to the orientation original, unexpired documents from the List of Acceptable Documents. Either one document from List A or one document from Lists B and C must be presented.Request resource in an alternative format or let us know if there are any accessibility issues that need to be addressed

Creating or Changing Wage/Work-Study Positions

The following forms should be used to create or change a part-time position, or to request a wage exception.

Hiring Temporary Wage Employees

Temporary job opportunities are used to help departments fill longer-term, but temporary, openings in unit schedules and for short-term unit projects.  The sharing of wage staff across units promotes cross-unit communication, a wider knowledge of the Libraries, and facilitates staff development. 

Temporary Job Information:

  • Wage employees are responsible for making sure they do not work more than 40 hours per week at Penn State or violate their visa work limits. 
  • Temporary positions will not exceed 4 months in duration.
  • Employees will be paid at the base rate that corresponds with the position level.

Performance Evaluations for Wage/Work-Study Employees

All part-time employees participate in an annual performance review similar in philosophy to the SRDP (Staff Review and Development Plan) used for full-time staff.  For more information, please visit the Performance Evaluations for Wage/Work-Study Employees website.
