ILL Lending Loan Guidelines

What Items Can Be Loaned?


Books, dissertations, theses, government documents, and some microfilms can be loaned. On special occasions it may be possible to obtain bound periodicals and microfilmed newspapers before 1990.

Dissertations: All years are available for loan to U.S. and Canadian libraries. Copies of Penn State dissertations from 1939 to the present are available for purchase from Proquest.

Media & Technology Support Services: To obtain videos and other materials from this special collection refer to MediaTech.

Newspapers: To view our collection see News and Microforms Library.

What Items Cannot Be Loaned?

Items that we usually cannot provide include:

  • Journal volumes
  • Reference
  • Textbooks
  • Rare or valuable books

Loan Periods:

 

The general loan period is 30 days.

Exception: AV Material - 1 week loan

All loans are subject to recall.

Next-Day Sevice:

Offered for items held in Pattee and Paterno Libraries only.

  • Subject to $54.00 surcharge

Items in the following locations can be shipped next-day, but may take up to 2 working days before they are shipped due to the item location ($54 surcharge still applies)

  • Annexes
  • Architecture and Landscape Architecture Library
  • Earth and Mineral Sciences Library
  • Engineering Library
  • Physical and Mathematical Sciences Library

Items from other Penn State libraries cannot be shipped next-day.
