Lion Cash+

This information pertains to the libraries at University Park.  For information on other campus libraries, visit the Campus College Libraries page.

LionCash+ is an online, prepaid flexible spending account accessed by your Penn State id+ card. Deposit money into your account, and you will enjoy the convenience of being able to make purchases at participating on- and off-campus locations without having cash in your pocket. The amount of your purchase will be deducted from your account and your remaining balance will be instantly displayed.

LionCash+ varies from campus to campus. For a listing of participating LionCash+ merchants and locations at each campus, click here.

Deposit funds online to your LionCash with a Visa or Mastercard using id+ Online – transactions are processed in real-time and are processed as a standard purchase (not as a cash advance).

For more information, visit here or call the id+ Office at 814-865-7590.

Adding Funds to LionCash or Resident Borrower Cards

Although the LionCash value transfer stations used to purchase or add value to LionCash cards are no longer available, library visitors and resident borrowers may still add value to LionCash or library borrower cards online. Adding value online requires a credit or debit/credit card.

To add value to either LionCash (available at no charge from the Commons Desk in Pattee Library) or library borrower cards:

  • Ask the user if he or she has a Friends of Penn State (FPS) account. If not, issue the user a STAAR account to permit authentication
  • Users with FPS accounts may add LionCash funds at a Visitor Station. Users with STAAR accounts can add funds at any workstation

At a Visitor or public workstation, direct the user to go to the PSU homepage (www.psu.edu) and perform a search for LionCash

  • Click on the link to the id+ Home Page
  • On the id+ Home Page, click on the link to Add Funds to Another's Account* and follow the instructions for either LionCash or Library card

*If using a Visitor Station, the user will be prompted to authenticate her using an FPS account

Announcement - May 22, 2012

LionCash or VTS (Value Transfer Stations that dispense debit-type cards) machines are being phased out. Data shows that most cash transfer transactions now take place online with ID+ Cards and Lion Cash accounts.

  • Students/faculty/staff are able to add value and use their ID+ cards to vend copies.
  • Community Borrowers with Libraries-issued borrowing cards will be able to add value to those cards to vend copies.
  • A small supply of LionCash Cards will be available at the Commons Services desk that can be issued, along with a STAAR account, to enable network access to the small contingent of users who do not fall into either of the above categories.

No date has yet been announced for the removal of the equipment.
