Spring Semester 2010

Thanks for Putting your Textbooks on Reserve

Thanks to everyone who put textbooks and other items on reserve in the fall and spring. The majority of high enrollment courses in the Life Sciences now have a textbook on reserve or in the Life Sciences Library Ready Reference Collection. If you have other materials to put on reserve, click here to learn how to put books and articles on reserve. If need be, we can buy one copy of the text for the Reserve Room. If you have other questions or need a book purchased for the LSL Ready Reference Collection or Reserves, please feel free to contact us.

Schedule your Spring Classes

If you need a library instruction session for your students, contact your subject librarian to make arrangements. Or if you have other library related assignments, feel free to ask for help. Librarians can assist by recommending databases and resources, checking that physical locations in the library are correct, and making sure that the resources are available to the students.

Looking for Images for your next Presentation?

The USDA has several places to find quality images. Here are three examples of the USDA`s image galleries:

  • The ARS Image Gallery is provided as a complimentary source of high quality digital photographs available from the Agricultural Research Service Information Staff. Categories include animals, crops, education, field research, fruits and vegetables, illustrations, insects, laboratory research and plants.
  • The Animal Science Image Gallery provides images of agricultural animals. The American Society of Animal Science oversees submission and acceptance of images to insure the accuracy.
  • USDA Pomological Watercolor Collection consists of approximately 175 images of fruit watercolors from the Report of the Pomologist between 1886 and 1900. During this time, scientific photography was not available and these exact representations allowed plant breeders to accurately document new cultivars.
