Instructional Statistics How To

Upcoming Classes and Instructional Statistics

If you are familiar with entering instructional statistics information in the database, please proceed to the Instructional Statistics page.

Instructions for using the system can be found here. A help utility is also available within the instructional statistics system.

For more about how to use the instructional statistics page, how to enter your information, or how to gain assistance, please continue reading:

Timely Instructional Statistics

The statistical system is designed to collect our numbers as well as to assist desk staff who may be confronted with a lost student saying, "I'm here for a library session for my psych class, do you know where they are meeting?"

Please add the information for each class session to the Instructional Statistics page as soon as you have made your class arrangements.

Reporting Your Instruction

Please be sure to report all of your instruction, including:

  • Course related/integrated instruction, graduate student instruction
  • Instructional presentations for groups (adult learners, international students)
  • Instructional outreach credit courses
  • Tours:
    • If you include a tour as part of an instructional session, please enter the session once (do not enter the tour separately.)
    • If you conduct a tour unrelated to an instructional session, please enter it just as you would a regular instruction session, under "Add a Tour."

Direct any questions to Library Learning Services (814-865-9257).

The number of sessions and total number of students reached is part of our ARL statistics reporting, and it is important to give ourselves credit for all of the instruction we do.

In addition this is a convenient way for you to keep track of your activities — for your annual faculty activities report and updating your dossier. We'll send you a report at the end of the year.

Authorized Users

Only authorized users can enter information, and all librarians and other staff who do instruction should be authorized. Please contact Library Learning Services (814-865-9257) to request authorization for new librarians and teaching staff to use the database. Once in the system, use your access ID and password on the "thumbprint" Web Access page.

Recording Your Classes

Recording your classes is easy. The URL is http://apps.libraries.psu.edu/stats/index.cfm. You'll need to log in with your Penn State user ID and password. If you do not know your password, please contact Library Learning Services at 814-865-9257 for assistance. If you are just searching for a class, it won't be necessary to log in.

Evaluation of Instruction

An easy and convenient method of getting student feedback on your class is available online.

  • This is only available when teaching in a hands-on classroom at University Park.
  • Librarians MUST enter their class on the Upcoming Classes page before the class begins!

The form takes only a couple of minutes for students to commplete. At the end of the session, take your students to the Library Learning Services "For Students" page. Have them click on the "Complete a Class Evaluation" button: If several classes are taught at the same time, the students will have to choose yours from a list of current classes — be sure to remind them which one to choose.

The system will collate the results for you. You can sign into the database and use the “Eval Stats” button at the top to view your results.

Instructions for using the system can be found here. A help utility is also available within the instructional statistics system.

Please let us know if you encounter any problems — and if you'd like a demo of the system! Contact Library Learning Services (814-865-9257).
