Central PA K-16 Librarians
Information Literacy Network
Thank you for attending the 2010 K-16 Workshop. Here is some follow-up information:
Hello fellow librarians!
You are invited to join us at the next Central PA K-16 Librarians Information Literacy Workshop on Tuesday, April 6 from 10 am. - 3:00 pm. at the Schlow Centre Region Library, Community Room.
Please join us for an informative, discussion-oriented workshop focused on the critical literacies that our students need to succeed academically and in the workplace. ;Ellysa Cahoy from Penn State University will lead a discussion on new literacies, including media literacy and technology literacy, and how these literacies relate to and combine with information literacy. We'll also discuss strategies for teaching students about copyright and fair use—all relevant in a new age where students are creating and sharing videos and other works online! After lunch, Karla Schmit, of the Pennsylvania Center for the Book, will focus on traditional literacy, sharing some of the storytelling techniques that she has found successful working in libraries for children—from collaborative lessons with classroom teachers to helping kids become storytellers, too.
Please register for the workshop online.
Once registered, you will receive additional information, including recommended readings and parking information for the workshop.
Participation is free and includes continental breakfast and lunch. This workshop provides Act 48 Credit.
Please feel free to share this announcement with other area librarians who you feel may be interested in attending.
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact Emily Rimland at erimland@psu.edu or 814-863-7355 or Ellysa Cahoy at ecahoy@psu.edu or 814-865-9696. We look forward to seeing you at the workshop!
