The Knowledge Commons is open 24 hours, from 10 a.m. Sunday to midnight on Friday, and then 10:00 a.m. to Midnight on Saturdays. It is a collection of services and physical spaces that facilitate information discovery and collaborative learning. It’s features include:
- Living Wall. This planted wall is all live plants. They are each planted into their own space, and there is a watering system behind the wall.
- Quick Access Workstations. These tables lift up and down to adjust for height.
- Collaborative Workstations. These bean-shaped tables can be for individual workspace, or can accommodate several students.
- Help and Reference Desks. Staff is available to answer questions, help with reserving the groups study rooms, and check-out headphones and VGA adapters for Mac users. A librarian is also available during the day to help answer reference questions.
- Group Study Rooms. These can be reserved at the Knowledge Commons Help Desk. Rooms include whiteboards, glass that can be written on, and MediaScapes. The MediaScape equipment allows students to connect their laptops or devices and show their screens on the televisions provided. This allows students to work collaboratively on projects.
- Living Room Seating. The comfortable seating can be rearranged to best suit students’ neds.
- TS Helpdesk. Student employees are available to help any Penn State student, staff or faculty resolve problems they may have with their personal devices.
