The Campus Library maintains a general reference collection to support the curricula of the campus. Included in the collection are general and specialized encyclopedias, statistical resources, dictionaries, almanacs, atlases, handbooks and indexes. Located on the first floor of the library, or try our Virtual Reference Collection of Electronic Reference Books.
The online catalog, or The CAT, is the system used to locate books and other materials owned by the university libraries. Items not at Mont Alto may be requested from other Penn State locations. The library catalog can be accessed from any computer with Internet access and searches a collection of over 5 million items. Be sure to also check out the growing collections of E-Books.
Penn State Libraries subscribe to many computerized periodical databases that are available to students, faculty and staff.

Specialized database indexes covering periodicals in the many fields including: agriculture, architecture, business, education, engineering, history, math, medicine, psychology and sociology, are available.

Penn State Mont Alto Library students, faculty, and staff have access to all Penn State Library items, as well as materials at other libraries. To borrow books/videos or obtain copies of articles not available online and not at the Mont Alto Library see the Interlibrary Loan Services and use ILLiad to submit your request.
The library subscribes to the Patriot News (Harrisburg), Washington Post, as well as local community newspapers (Chambersburg, Waynesboro, Hagerstown, Gettysburg). Most other current newspapers are available full-text on-line. Check the NewsCAT for access to current or past issues of any newspaper.
The library maintains subscriptions and back files for a variety of magazines and journals. Articles from periodicals not owned on campus are often available through one of our many databases.

ILLiad can be used to request copies of articles not available at the Mont Alto Library.
The Campus Library has a coin operated Xerox photocopier for making 8 1/2" x 11" copies. Cost for each copy is $.10.
An Epson color scanner for documents up to 12" x17" is also available.
There are several areas suitable for meetings or group study in addition to small private study rooms. Study tables and desks can also be found throughout the building.
The library has computers for library research and general use. A scanner and a color printer are also available, as well as a black and white printer.
Each student may print up to 250 free pages each semester and will have the ability to purchase additional pages online via their LionCash+ account. See Print Billing for more information.
Wireless Internet access is available in and around the library. You may use your laptop or borrow one of ours. Laptop computers can be checked out for up to 5 days.
A Penn State user ID is required to access the Internet. Public Internet access is not available.
A computer is available for members of the community without a PSU ID who would like to search the library catalog or access available research databases. Printing is not available at this computer.
Course reserves are books, films, audio recordings, or other physical items made available by faculty for student use and are housed in the library. Articles, chapter selections, and links to external websites may be placed on electronic reserve, allowing the item to be accessible through The CAT as well as ANGEL. Copyright guidelines must be followed for the fair use of all materials placed on reserve.
