June 30: Quilt display conveys victims' emotional turmoil

Every year, Penn State Beaver Campus Library displays a quilt created by women and children from the Beaver County Women’s center. The Sexual Assault and Domestic Violence Awareness Quilt project began 12 years ago and serves as a visual display to remember women and children who have been victimized by violence, and to create an awareness of domestic violence and sexual assault. Each square on the quilt depicts a victim’s emotions—fear, anxiety and guilt along with hope and desire for a healing process.image of quilt

“Our library proudly places it on display every spring and summer, as well as two showcases full of thought-provoking materials. In 2004, I was recognized by the shelter for our support and assistance to the center for our annual display of their quilts, which are replaced every few years with new ones,” says Penn State Beaver Campus Library Head Marty Goldberg.

The quilt will be on display through August.
