March 5: Business, IST focus for new librarian

Daniel Hickey was recently hired as business and information sciences librarian in the SchreyerDaniel HIckey Business Library. Hickey has a MLIS with a specialization in academic libraries from the University of Pittsburgh, and a BA in English Literature from the University of Pittsburgh, where he graduated magna cum laude. Hickey was awarded a scholarship to attend library school through the library school’s Partner's Program. As part of the scholarship, he became a reference intern at the Katz Business School Library and Hillman Library (Pittsburgh's main library). His duties included assisting students and faculty with in-depth research, answering reference questions and participating in collection development. He also created and maintained an internal wiki for the Business Library, revised a research handout for incoming MBA students and created bibliographic instruction sessions with an emphasis on the cultivation of information literacy.

Hickey also worked as an archival intern at the Andy Warhol Museum in Pittsburgh, where he processed museum-quality artifacts from Warhol's Time Capsules, a collection of 612 largely uncataloged boxes of the artist’s personal effects and art. He assisted archivists in describing and item-level cataloging time capsule contents using the "Art & Architecture Thesaurus." In 2008, Hickey was awarded the Gale Cengage Learning Student Travel Award from BRASS (the Business Resources and Services Section of RUSA, part of the American Library Association).
