October 12: Focus on accessibility in online education
The Penn State University Libraries will host an informative presentation highlighting accessibility in online education, on October 12, from 10 a.m. to noon, in Foster Auditorium, 101 Pattee Library.
Online learning enhances access to higher education for many students, including those confronting disability issues. However, the technologies used to support content presentation and classroom interactions in online learning environments may present additional barriers for students with disabilities. This presentation by accessibility experts will focus on Penn State's policies, practices and standards for accessibility of online courses, and highlight best practices in learning design and technology selection. Participants will also learn about support services and resources that are available to assist in providing accessible textbooks and other course resources.
For more information, or if you anticipate needing any type of accommodation or have questions about the physical access provided, please contact Susan Hayya, coordinator of Library Services for Persons with Disabilities (LSPD), 814-865-0284, or shh2@psu.edu.
Also in conjunction with Disabilities Awareness Month at Penn State, LSPD currently has on display "The Changing Face of the Disability Movement," an exhibit, at the west entrance of Pattee Library, through Oct. 31. (Read the full story here.)
