Where can I make copies with my new card?
New card readers on library photocopiers are currently being installed. However, the network printers will continue to use the old chips for awhile. We don’t know when they’ll be converted.
Can I use my old ID card in the new card readers?
The old IDs cards are compatible with the new card readers, but you need have a debit account set up. Go to http://www.idcard.psu.edu/ for more information. To move funds from the chip on the old cards to the debit account on the old cards, bring the card to the ID+ Office in the HUB. (For departmental cards see next article.)
Can I add value to my card?
The LionCash (chip) machines (in Pattee, Paterno, and the Laptop Library) will be available until the conversion is completed. You should be able to add value to existing cards.
Where can I find information about when I will get the new ID card?
Information about the distribution of the new ID cards is available at http://ais.its.psu.edu/ssn/

If you are using departmental copy cards in public photocopiers, you should visit the ID+ Office in the HUB. ID+ staff will transfer the funds on the chip to a new card and set up a debit account for you. If there’s a line of students you can leave the card with ID+ staff. They’ll make the changeover as they have time and return the new card to you.
Future replenishment of funds will be done via IDCC. Someone in your departmental office will know how to do this. The cards can also be imprinted with whatever identification you’d like (helps with returning lost cards).

Are you open?
Yes.
What does PAMS stand for?
PAMS is an acronym for Physical and Mathematical Sciences. It’s a combination of the names of the two original libraries: the Physical Sciences Library and the Mathematics Library.
Where are the books in astronomy, chemistry, physics, and chemical engineering?
Due to the construction we had to temporarily store them in the Annex. Once the renovations are complete, they will be returned to the PAMS Library.
Where can I sit down?
We have very limited seating right now. There are tables and a couple of soft chairs in the front of the library and a couple more tables and some soft chairs at the back of the bound journals room. If you’re using a table for 4 people, please share the space.
When are you going to be finished?
We hope to be finished sometime about the middle of Spring Semester. There’s more information below in the “Construction Update”.
You used to have journal lists available. Where are they?
Copies of the current lists are scattered around the library (look for blue loose-leaf notebooks). We are working on updating the lists, but it will be a while yet before they are finished. Go to http://www.libraries.psu.edu/pams/chemistry/journallists.html (physics, astronomy, chemistry, chemical engineering) or http://www.libraries.psu.edu/pams/ejournallist.html (mathematics, statistics) for more information.
I can’t find this journal on the shelf, and it’s a major journal in my field. Where is it?
Library users have indicated a preference for electronic format, so we are emphasizing that. Print equivalents of electronic publications generally are not onsite. If you need help to determine whether or not we have electronic access, please ask us. We’ll be happy to help you.
Are you wireless?
No, but we are expanding the number of available data ports; many have already been activated. All new study carrels, study rooms, and browsing areas will have power and data available.

We’re in a temporary lull in construction. Once the offices on the Chandlee side of the 2nd floor are vacated, renovations will resume, probably in October, with a December completion date. This space will contain bound journals, a small meeting room, and study carrels.
Early in 2005 work on the Osmond side will begin and is scheduled to be finished in March. This side will contain the book and reference collections, study carrels, and a library instruction lab. Collections that are in temporary storage (astronomy, chemistry, physics, and chemical engineering books published prior to 2004, math and statistics journals, and math and statistics books) will be returned from the Annex.
The front part of the library will be finished last. The shelving will be removed, floors carpeted, walls painted, and new furniture installed. This will be a browsing area with group study rooms, casual seating, and new books and journals displays. If you would like to see the floor plan, we have a copy posted at the PAMS Library entrance.
