The PAMS library automatically places all text books on reserve for Astronomy, Chemistry, Math, Physics and Statistics from the PSU bookstore list. All University Park Libraries, including the Physical and Mathematical Sciences Library, will be having an Open House on Tuesday, September 16 & Wednesday, September 17 from 10:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m. At PAMS we will be highlighting the rich history of Penn State scientists in the disciplines of Astronomy & Astrophysics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Physics, and Statistics, especially Evan Pugh.

We will again be showing science films on most Fridays during the Fall semester starting at 3:35pm in Davey 211. Each film, or pair of films, will last about 1 hour. The first film will be “Achieving the Unachievable” on the mathematics of M.C. Escher’s work. Other films this month are “About Time”, “The Mother of All Collisions: Dynamics of Impacts”, “100 Greatest Discoveries: Astronomy”, and the series “The Molecular Universe”.

In addition to the software programs R and SPSS that are now available on PAMS library computers (mentioned http://www.libraries.psu.edu/psul/pams/newsletters/200806.html#Item#4), all library computers will have the chemical structure software ChemDraw. It is available under “Course Specific Programs” then “A-F” then “ChemDraw”.

Penn State has purchased RefWorks, a citation software and bibliographic management tool with some features similar to EndNote. It is Web-based and can be used from any location and uses Penn State WebAccess authentication for a login.

The Journal of Number Theory now has eight videos on the popular website Youtube that feature scholars talking about their forthcoming articles in the journal. The journal represents the broad spectrum of interest in contemporary number theory and allied areas

The library’s online collection has increased with the complete digital archive for three more Oxford Math titles. Bulletin of the London Mathematical Society published from 1969 onwards, Journal of the London Mathematical Society from 1926 onwards, and Proceedings of the London Mathematical Society from 1865 onwards.
