About Our Department

Publishing and Curation Services is part of a division headed by Mike Furlough, Associate Dean for Research and Scholarly Communications.  Research and Scholarly Communications also includes Digitization & Preservation. Mike Furlough is also the primary dean for the Eberly Family Special Collections Library. In addition, we collaborate with the Penn State Press on publishing initiatives such as the Office of Digital Scholarly Publishing.

Our system-wide tasks involve creative, collaborative activities that identify, produce, and assess scholarly digital content for the collections. We are involved in curation, access, archiving, management, and evaluation, as well as preservation services for materials and collections in all formats.

Our goal is to provide relevant services and sponsor events in the digital arena for Penn State faculty and students. In such an evolving area, our mandate is to be agile and contribute to a range of initiatives and events related to scholarly communication. Working closely with other units and committees in the Libraries, as well as with other external partners, our interests include copyright and intellectual property, open access publishing and principles, research data and scholarly content management, new publishing models, preservation of collections, etc.
