Articles and Databases

SciFinder Scholar – Links to journal articles, patents, conference proceedings, and doctoral dissertations in chemistry (Chemical Abstracts) and related fields; also includes chemical properties, reactions, and chemical catalogs.

Web of Science – Part of Web of Knowledge.  Select Web of Science from the "Select a Database”"tab.  Indexes journal articles in all areas of science and technology from 1900 to present.

Inspec – Includes journals and conference proceedings in physics and related disciplines.

Properties Data

First stop sources of properties data

CRC Handbook of Chemistry and Physics

SciFinder Scholar – Search by chemical structure, formula, name, or CAS Registry Number to locate records for specific chemical substances. These include properties data.

Reaxys – Properties data for organic, inorganic, and organometallic compounds

Try Knovel next

It is an extensive collection of handbooks in the sciences and engineering. You will need to limit your search to what is in the Penn State collection. Select the broad category from the list on the Knovel homepage, and then click on “My subscription” in the upper right corner.

Knovel PSU Chemistry and Chemical Engineering Handbooks - This links directly to the Knovel page listing the handbooks and other resources to which PSU subscribes. A few of these are listed below.

Bretherick's handbook of reactive chemical hazards

Chemical properties handbook: physical, thermodynamic, environmental, transport, safety, and health related properties for organic and inorganic chemicals

Chemistry of the elements

The Dictionary of substances and their effects

Knovel Critical Tables

Lange’s Handbook of Chemistry

Properties of Gases and Liquids

Smithsonian Physical Tables
