Articles and Databases

At University Park most of the print materials containing information on gas chromatography (GC) are in the Physical and Mathematical Sciences Library, 201 Davey Lab.

The Journal of Chemical Education contains articles on gas chromatography (GC) written at an undergraduate level.

Selected articles on the history of GC include:

The following indexes included technical and scholarly articles about GC.

  • SciFinder Scholar – Indexes articles, patents, conference proceedings and doctoral dissertations in chemistry and related fields; also includes information on chemical substances, reactions, and chemical catalogs.
  • Web of Science – Part of Web of Knowledge. Select Web of Science from the “Select a Database” tab. Covers all areas of science and technology.

Encyclopedias

Subject-specific encyclopedias are very useful for finding background information and often have substantial in-depth articles.

Chemistry-specific encyclopedias

Other relevant science encyclopedias

  • Access Science - Online version of McGraw-Hill Encyclopedia of Science and Technology. Is targeted at a student audience. Not as technical as Kirk-Othmer. (Online)
  • Gale Encyclopedia of Science – Type “gas chromatography” in the search box on the left.
  • World of Forensic Science  – Type “gas chromatography” in the search box on the left.

Handbooks and Manuals

May have substantial chapters or sub-chapters dealing with GC.

Other Books

The CAT contains information on all the books, journals, and other publications that are in the Penn State collections.

Search The CAT to find books on chromatography. Instead of the default “Keywords Anywhere” search, do a “Keyword” search and change the drop down box to “Topic (Title + Subject)”. Try terms such as
