  • International Peace Research Association Directory Guide of Peace Research
    a directory of associations dedicated to peace research

  • Yearbook of International Organizations [Penn State Libraries]
    this guide to global civil society networks provides extensive coverage of non-profit international organizations available today whether governmental or non-governmental. More then just a directory, the yearbook provides: organization descriptions, international organization participation, global action networks, a bibliography of resources, and statistics.

  • Associations Unlimited [Penn State Libraries]
    has information and locations on nearly 144,000 nonprofit membership organizations worldwide: International and U.S. National, Regional, State, and Local. It covers everything from local Chambers of Commerce to the American Medical Association, and beyond.

Current Conflicts

  • Armed Conflict Database [Penn State Libraries]
    from the International Institute of Strategic Studies, the database provides background information on conflicts throughout the world. The database includes yearly conflict reports from 2000 onwards, with historical data for longstanding conflicts.

  • Peace Research Abstracts [Penn State Libraries]
    covers essential areas related to peace research, including conflict resolution, peace psychology, genocide, international law, armed conflicts, civil wars, territorial disputes, terrorism, counterterrorism, arms control, peacekeeping, peacebuilding, humanitarian aid.

  • Philosopher's Index [Penn State Libraries]
    covers scholarly research in all areas of philosophy. The literature covered goes back to 1940 and includes journal articles, books, book chapters such as contributions to an anthology, and book reviews. Useful for researching nonviolence, pacifism, etc.

  • Worldwide Political Science Abstracts [Penn State Libraries]
    citations, abstracts, and indexing of the international serials literature in political science and its complementary fields, including international relations, law, and public administration/public policy. Useful for researching the peace movement, nonviolence, war, just war theory, etc.

 

Policy Papers

  • CIAO (Columbia International Affairs Online) [Penn State Libraries]
    a comprehensive source for research in international affairs. It includes full text of selected books on international affairs, working papers from university research institutes, occasional papers series from NGOs, foundation-funded research projects, and proceedings from conferences. It also, contains abstracts and some full text of selected journal articles.

  • OxResearch [Penn State Libraries]
    a "first draft of history" as it occurs. Provides succinct analytical articles covering world and regional economic and political developments of major significance. Evaluates issues and events within a coherent political, social, and economic framework. Contains objective, multi-disciplinary articles compiled by an extensive international network of over 1,000 faculty members at Oxford and other leading universities around the world, as well as think tanks and institutes of international standing.

  • PolicyFile [Penn State Libraries]
    draws its content from public policy think tanks, university research programs, research organizations and publishers. Provides links to documents and organizations.

  • Praeger Security International [Penn State Libraries]
    interdisciplinary and diverse in political perspective, Praeger Security International Online publishes material on international security, including defense and foreign policy, strategy, regional security, military history, and terrorism.

U.S. Government

  • United States Institute of Peace
    provides the analysis, training and tools that help to prevent, manage and end violent international conflicts, promote stability and professionalize the field of peacebuilding.

  • U.S. Department of State

  • Bureau of Conflict and Stabilization
    Agency responsible to lead, coordinate and institutionalize U.S. Government civilian capacity to prevent or prepare for post-conflict situations, and to help stabilize and reconstruct societies in transition from conflict or civil strife, so they can reach a sustainable path toward peace, democracy and a market economy.

  • Civilian Response Corps
    provides the U.S. Government with a pool of qualified, trained, and ready-to-deploy civilian professionals to support overseas reconstruction and stabilization operations

  • U.S. Agency for International Development [USAID]
    USAID is an independent federal government agency that receives overall foreign policy guidance from the Secretary of State and is the principal agency providing foreign assistance.

  • Peace Corps
    an agency of the federal government devoted to world peace and friendship. Volunteers live in work in host communities helping the people of interested countries in meet their need for trained men and women.

  • U.S. Commission on Security and Cooperation in Europe (Helsinki Commission)
    an independent U.S. government agency created in 1976 to monitor and encourage compliance with the Helsinki Final Act and other OSCE commitments.

  • Human Rights Documents Online [Penn State Libraries]
    contains documents collected since 1980 by the Human Rights Internet, the unofficial depository for documentation produced by more than 480 non-governmental human rights organizations throughout the world. Reports may be universal in scope or focus on a specific area of the world. Users can find documents by using a keyword search or browsing by country.
