Like federal statutes, state statutes are generally published in two versions:  a chronological version with the text of the laws as passed by state legislatures, and a code version. Also see our Pennsylvania Laws page for more info on the Libraries' resources for this material.

Databases

Databases Internet Resources Print

Both LexisNexis Academic and Westlaw Campus.  Provide access to the code versions of the statutes.  Both provide references to the original laws as passed by the legislatures and other notes.  Both are keyword searchable.

  • Westlaw Campus

A more browseable version of the state statutes.  Westlaw also provides extensive notes on the history of the law, links to court cases, legal encyclopedia articles, and law review articles.
Please note: In LexisNexis, each record consists of a single section ( § ) of the statutes. A single section is usually comprized of one or more brief sentences of text. The search result will present individual sections without the context of other sections with which they are associated. Users may want to start with a search in LexisNexis, then consult print versions of statutes to help them develop a clearer understanding of the statute as a whole.
