Here’s your opportunity to explore the planning, development, and implementation of exhibitions in an archives setting! Get practical training and theoretical knowledge of developing an exhibit in a special collections setting from the initial idea through planning, exhibiting, and beyond…. Create discussion and collaboration beyond the archives—by advertising and marketing the exhibit, outreach and education, adding impact through the development of related events, working with the media to publicize your event, reaching a broader audience, and developing a digital component to the exhibit. Also included are practical tips on the use of readily-available materials to create a professional, informative, and attractive exhibit without compromising the source.
Upon completion of this workshop, you'll be able to:
Who should attend? Archives professionals, from novice to seasoned, who are interested in developing exhibitions within their repository as well as students in archival studies and other information professionals who are considering expanding their public service and outreach skills through exhibition development. An understanding of your own collection and the ability to think creatively and resourcefully are musts!

The workshop will be held in the Charles W. Mann Assembly Room (Room 103) in the Paterno Library at The Pennsylvania State University, University Park, PA.
Lodging is available nearby at the Nittany Lion Inn located at 200 West Park Avenue for $110/Single plus tax by calling 1-800-233-7505. You must give the group identification number: SOCF09B to qualify for this special rate. Reservations received after May 22, 2009 will be based on space availability and may be at a higher rate. Even if you are unsure if you will be able to attend this workshop, we recommend making a reservation at the Nittany Lion Inn as reservations can be cancelled without charge 48 hours prior to your arrival. Be aware that the Nittany Lion Inn is a five minute walk to the library. Note that the Nittany Lion Inn offers a complimentary shuttle service around campus as well as to/from the airport. The closest parking area is the Nittany Parking Deck next door to the Nittany Lion Inn; it is a five minute walk to the library. There is an hourly charge if you are not a guest of the Nittany Lion Inn.
