History
The history of our library collection is one of dramatic change. From its humble beginnings in the Bunker Hill Building, to its present location within Ciletti Library, the library collection has developed to meet the needs of faculty and students alike.

Bunker Hill Building

1948 Record albums added to the library. Albums are available for SUC students to rent at 10 cents/copy. |
Mahantongo St. Building
| 1948 Library moved to Mahantongo Street Building in October of 1948. When students were asked how they liked the new building, one commented: "At least we don't have to study in the boiler room. The library is very cozy and quiet, and I feel I'm really accomplishing some proper studying." | |||
| 1949 Mrs. J. DeNicola appointed college librarian and instructor in English composition. | ![]() | ||
| 1959 Helen "Miss D" Devendorf appointed as college librarian. | |||
| 1960 A Library Club was started at the Penn State Center. | |||
Main Floor of Classroom Building
| 1968 Mr. Joseph Costa is appointed librarian. He serves until 1982. | |||
| 1968 Telefacsimile devices linked nearly all the Pennsylvania State University Commonwealth Campus Libraries with Pattee Library at University Park. This network is the first in the country considered to be completely successful. | ![]() | ||
| 1974 Tapestry depicting the campus made by Mrs. Marian Beil and presented to the campus as a gift from the sophomore class. The tapestry currently hangs in the Reading Room of Ciletti Library. | |||
Lower Level of Classroom Building
| 1979 Edward G. Fox donated his collection of Pennsylvania German books to the campus, thus creating the library's special collections. Schuylkill library moved from the Classroom building's main floor to its lower level. | ||
| 1983 Michael Wescott Loder appointed as campus librarian. Library begins to provide audio-visual services. | ||
| 1987 Conrad Richter books and memorabilia donated to the library by his daughter, Harvena Richter. | ||
| 1991 New Library site is dedicated during the summer. | ![]() | |
Ciletti Memorial Library
| 1993 "Necho Allen Discovering Coal," a mural by George Benjamin Luks was restored. The mural currently hangs in the Reading Room. | ![]() | ||
| 1994 Library collection is moved from the Classroom Building to its new location by students, staff, and faculty. | |||
1995 The library is officially dedicated to the memory of Fred Ciletti. 1999 Meredith Ayers appointed as reference librarian. 2003 Amy Deuink appointed as reference librarian in August. In 2007, Amy accepted a reference position at Penn State Altoona's Robert E. Eiche Library. 2008 Matthew Wayman appointed as head librarian, and Jason Reuscher appointed as reference librarian. A browsing and leisure reading collection is added to the library. 2009 The library television studio and production room is converted into a library instruction lab. | |||
