National Earth Satellite Service (1971- )
The Environmental Data Service (C 55.200) was established within the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration of the Department of Commerce by Department Organization Order 25-5A on October 9, 1970.
In August 1980, the National Environmental Satellite Service (NESS) was removed from the Office of Oceanic and Atmospheric Services. Sept. 8, 1980. Name change from National Environmental Satellite Service to National Earth Satellite Service.
